Two car accident claims the life of a local woman

A two car accident on Hwy 43 North just a few hundred yards east of the Hwy 43 North and Hwy 11 intersection, claimed the life of a local area woman on Friday afternoon.

According to Pearl River County Coroner Derek Coroner, Mary Jackanell Smith, age 77, of 84 Richardson-Ozona Road, Carriere, MS, was killed when her vehicle was struck by another vehicle headed east on Hwy 43 North.

Smith’s vehicle was exiting the parking lot at Family Dollar onto the roadway at 800 Hwy 43 North where it was struck on the driver’s side according to Turnage.
