Local man arrested for illegal narcotics after being stopped for no tail lights

On July 27th, Picayune Police Narcotic Detectives, along with the Picayune Police Criminal Investigation Detectives, conducted a traffic stop on a blue 2006 Chevrolet Silverado for non-working tail lights according to a press release from Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri.

Magri’s press release states that Detectives stopped the vehicle on Highway 43 North near Exit 6. Detectives approached the vehicle and requested a valid drivers’ license and a valid proof of insurance from the driver, identified as Jeffery Scott Smith, age 47, of 220 Dozier Street, Picayune, MS.

While speaking with Smith, Detectives observed him to have constricted pupils and Smith was not in control of his body movements, which is consistent with the use of Crystal Methamphetamine according to Magri.

Detectives conducted a search of the vehicle and located a clear plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance believed to be Crystal Methamphetamine in between the front driver seat where Smith was sitting and the center console.

Smith was placed under arrest, transported to the Criminal Justice Center, booked for Possession of a Controlled Substance (felony), and incarcerated.
