Picayune Police make narcotic arrest on Highway 11

Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri stated that on July 26th at approximately 8:47pm, a Picayune Police Patrol officer observed a sliver GMC Sierra truck traveling southbound on Highway 11 that swerved several times and crossed the solid white line on the roadway.

A check of the Mississippi license plate on the vehicle revealed that it had expired in April of 2018. At this time, the officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on Highway 11 south near Seal Street. The officer made contact with the driver identified as Jason Dewayne Pearson, age 43, of 1000 Restoration Way, Kiln, MS.

Magri said Pearson then opened the glove box in attempt to locate proof of insurance in the glove band the officer observed a pill bottle. The officer asked Pearson if there was anything in the vehicle he should be aware of and the officer observed Pearson to be nervous and hesitant and made a comment to the officer that this was not his truck. The officer asked Pearson to step out of the vehicle and obtained consent to search the vehicle from Pearson.

During a search of the vehicle, the officer recovered an orange top syringe under the armrest, a cut straw containing a residue inside the armrest, a black zipper pouch containing three small folded aluminum foils containing a white powdery substance believed to be Heroin, and another orange top syringe inside the armrest according to Magri.

Pearson was taken into custody, transported to the Criminal Justice Center, booked, and incarcerated for Possession of a Controlled Substance (felony) and Possession of Paraphernalia..
