PRCC’s Adult Ed graduates record number
HATTIESBURG - It was a record-setting year for the Adult Education program at Pearl River Community College.
Pearl River Community College had more than 1,200 students enrolled at eight different locations in the Adult Education program in the 2017-18 school year. PRCC offers Adult Education courses at five locations throughout its six-county district. Some 280 students graduated this year, making it the program's biggest class ever.
Many of the graduates not only got their diplomas, but also received work force certificates. Approximately 165 students received their high school equivalency diplomas during a commencement ceremony May 24 at the Lake Terrace Convention Center.
“I had my first kid when I was 17, had to get a job, school just wasn't in the picture," said Shane Bounds, a graduate from Lumberton. “And this is to show my kids that it's never too late and they back me more than anybody.”
“When I was (at PRCC), I was able to get my certified nursing assistant certificate and license and also, my high school diploma, so it was good,” said Nicole Miller of Hattiesburg, another graduate.
Director of the PRCC AE program is Terri Clark. AE coordinator is Ruby Smith. HSE test administrator is Patricia Magee.
