Picayune Police looking for suspect in hit and run accident
Picayune Police are asking the public for help in regards to an apparent hit and run accident that occurred on Highway 43 North at Boley Creek Bridge on Wednesday, May 16th at approximately 12:18pm.
Assistant Police Chief Jeremy Magri said that partol officers were dispatched to the scene, and when they arrived, they found the victim lying on the shoulder of the bridge with a bicycle beside her. The victim had severe injuries to one of her legs and was transported to Forrest General Hospital.
The victim told the officers that she was traveling in a westwardly direction on the shoulder of the bridge when a gray Jeep Wrangler, also heading west, struck the victim and the bicycle.
A witness told officers that he had observed the accident from a distance and saw the vehicle traveling on the shoulder just before it hit the cyclist and observed both the victim and the bicycle as they both went airborne from the impact of the Jeep Wrangler.
Other officers immediately arrived in the area and began to patrol the area and look for the vehicle. At this time, the suspect has not been identified and is not in custody. The vehicle, according to Magri, will most likely have damage on the front right fender and bumper area of the Jeep Wrangler.
Charges are pending against the suspect for Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Serious Injuries.
Magri said that if anyone has information about this accident or may know who the suspect is , please call the Picayune Police Department 601-798-7411 or they can call Pearl River County Crimestoppers at 601-799-CLUE (2583).
