Neshoba Central captures 6th straight crown with 6-2 win over Pearl River Central

Starkville-Neshoba Central won its sixth straight State Championship in Fast Pitch softball by beating a valiant Pearl River Central team 6-2 to take the series in two games at Nusz Park on the campus of Mississippi State University.

The Rockets once again relied on the pitching of Mississippi State commit, junior Aspen Wesley, who struck out 13 and allowed four hits.

Neshoba Central scored first on a solo home run by Sindle Williams in the top of the second inning. The homer almost turned into a fly out due to the extraordinary effort from PRC centerfielder Madison Gower. Gower leaped above the wall in left centerfield and got a glove on the ball, but was unable to bring it back into the field when her arm banged against the wall on her way down.

PRC tied the game on Shelby Archer’s solo home run in the bottom of the second, her 8th of the year.

Wesley hit a two-run home run in the fourth for 3-1 lead and the Rockets extended the lead to 5-1 with a double and two singles in the fifth. Neshoba Central added a run in the top of the seventh.

The Blue Devils got their other run in the fifth on Brienne Penton’s triple to left centerfield that scored courtesy runner Ahlana Lee. Lee was running for Madi Glidewell who singled with one out.

Neshoba Central finishes the season 34-0 while Pearl River Central finishes 26-7. The Lady Blue Devils made school history with the 26 wins (school record) and the school's first South State Championship in fast pitch.
