West Jones beats PRC 7-6 on walk off home run in Game 3
Soso- Kris Riley belted a walk off three run home run in the bottom of the seventh to give West Jones a 7-6 win over Pearl River Central in Game 3 of their third round playoff series at Mustang Field in Soso.
PRC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning on RBI singles from Hayden Dunhurst and Eli Lee.
While Blake Craft kept West Jones in check, Dunhurst added another run with a tape measure homer in the fifth.
West Jones got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the fifth when catcher Adam Bassett tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Hayden Bryan.
In the sixth, the Mustangs pushed across three runs behind a two-run double by Garrett McLaurin and Bassett followed with a single to drive in the go-ahead run.
Down 4-3 in the top of the seventh, PRC got a walk from Mason Treat and Caleb Tynes was hit by a pitch. West Jones brought in Bryan in relief of starter Evan Bynum. Bynum got Izzio out on a short fly ball to right. Dunhurst then hit his second home run of the game to put the Blue Devils up 6-4.
In the bottom of the seventh, leadoff hitter Walker Thompson doubled and Craft was replaced by Dunhurst. Dunhurst got the next batter out on a groundout then walked a batter setting the stage for Riley’s game winner.
Pearl River Central (23-8) , the defending Class 5A state champion, finishes the season one game short of a third straight South State appearance.
West Jones (27-3) will play Hattiesburg (22-10) in next week’s South State Championship series.
