Brookhaven blanks PRC 2-0 in Game 1

Brookhaven—Haley Nations struck out 13 batters on her way to a no-hitter in leading Brookhaven to a 2-0 win over Pearl River Central in Game 1 of their South State semi-final series. Nations now has 195 strike outs in 125 innings this season.

Pearl River Central’s Jade Latham also pitched well striking out 7 batters and allowing just 4 hits, but a bad bounce of a bunted ball turn the game quickly in the bottom of the fourth.

Kat Wallace singled to start the inning for the Panthers (22-4). Jadeyn Fuller bunted the ball toward first base and just as PRC’s Keigan Pearson was about to field the ball, the ball hit something on the playing surface and took a wild bounce to the right and went past Pearson allowing Wallace to third base and Fuller safe at first with a bad hop single. Fuller stole second base on the next pitch and two pitches later Rileigh Allen’s single just over the shortstop’s head plated the two runners for the only runs of the game. For Allen, it pushed her RBI total to a team high 33 for the season.
