West Harrison rallies to beat Picayune 5-4 and win series

Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh, West Harrison rallied for three runs to beat Picayune 5-4 and win the series two games to none.

The Hurricanes scored an unearned run in the third on two Picayune throwing errors, but the Maroon Tide came back in their next at bat to tie the game when Sarah Stockstill tripled down the right field line and scored on Kammy Chaisson’s hot grounder to second base.

West Harrison responded in the bottom of the inning with a run to retake the lead at 2-1.

Picayune went ahead in the top of the sixth. Kayla Moore reached on an infield single and she moved to third base on Riana McNeely’s ground ball that the third baseman threw past the second baseman trying to start a double play. McNeely ended up on second base on the play. Devin Frierson scorched a triple into the right field corner scoring Brooke Breaux (running for Moore) and McNeely for a 3-2 lead.

The Maroon Tide added a run in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Chaisson that scored Sarah Stockstill who had reached base on a fielder’s choice grounder.

In the bottom of the inning, speedy leadoff batter Marley Sims bunted for a single and Bethany Stiglet doubled to deep right field. Two pitches later Sydney Brooke Sims crushed a ball over the Maroon Tide outfield and raced around the bases for an inside the park home run to win it.
