Operation Spring Cleaning related arrests continue

The Picayune Police Department Narcotics Division recently made another arrest as part of the ongoing Operation Spring Cleaning against illegal narcotic activities. Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri reported the following arrest information in a press release.

On April 9th at approximately 6:50pm, Picayune Police Narcotic Detectives were conducting proactive patrolling when they stopped a vehicle to conduct a traffic stop for careless driving on South Beech Street near Rosa Street. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jason Lee Freeman, age 20, of 236 Foxtrail Road, Picayune. Freeman was unable to provide proof of valid insurance according to Magri’s press release.

During the traffic stop, Narcotic Detectives smelled a strong odor of what appeared to be burnt Marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Freeman was asked to exit the vehicle and he complied with the request from the Detectives. A search of the vehicle was performed and Detectives located one brown hand rolled cigar containing a green leafy substance believed to be Marijuana and one clear plastic bag containing a crystal like substance believed to be Crystal Methamphetamine inside the front center console.

While further speaking with Freeman, Detectives observed Freeman to have constricted pupils and not able to control his body movements, which indicates a person may be under the influence of illegal narcotics. Freeman was offered a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, but refused. Freeman was placed under arrest for Endangering a Child by D.U.I. due to a white 11 year old female juvenile being a passenger, Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony), Possession of Marijuana in a Motor Vehicle, Carless Driving, and No Insurance per Magri’s release.

Freeman was transported to the Criminal Justice Center where he was booked and incarcerated. The 11 year female was later released to her guardian.
