PRCSO makes two arrests for sexual related crimes

The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office (PRCSO) arrested two county residents in two separate incidents for sexual related charges according to PRCSO Chief Deputy Shane Tucker.

Tucker said the mother of a 15 year female called authorities on March 12th after she discovered explicit text messages on her daughter’s phone from Larry Pernell Stockstill, age 47, of 7 L.D. Stockstill Lane, Picayune.

Stockstill began texting with the young female on Saturday, March 10th, after he had come in contact with her at a house where the 15 year old female had spent the night with one of her friends. Stockstill was working on a car at the residence where the 15 year old female spent the night with her friend.

While the mother was reviewing the text messages on the phone, Stockstill sent a sexually explicit message to the phone, at which time the mother promptly contacted the PRCSO to report it.

PRCSO took the phone from the mother and determined through investigation that Stockstill was attempting to lure the 15 year old female. Tucker said the PRCSO issued warrants and Stockstill was arrested without incident on March 19th and charged with Exploitation of a Child and Attempt to Commit a Crime (Enticement of a Child). Stockstill was incarcerated at the Lenoir Rowell Criminal Justice Center in Millard and his bond was set at $1,000,000.00 ($500,000.00 for each charge).

Chief Deputy Tucker stated, “We commend this mother for being concerned, and aware enough, to go through her daughter’s phone. If she had not, this case could have ended in a much worse ending.”

Tucker said the PRCSO encourages parents to review their children’s phones on a regular basis as it is "likely to reveal important information about what is going on with their children".

Larry Pernell Stockstill Murphy McGill

In a separate incident, Tucker said a mother called the PRCSO on March 16th and reported that her 5 year old male and 2 year old female children had been molested by 68 year old Murphy McGill of 44 Miss Southern Road, Poplarville, for over a month during the February and March timeframe.

Tucker stated that the PRCSO investigated the complaint and confirmed there was probable cause that the incident happened. PRCSO issued warrants for McGill’s arrest and he was taken into custody on March 28th. McGill was charged with three counts of Sexual Battery and one count of Child Molestation (Touching a Child for Lustful Purposes) and he was incarcerated at the Lenoir Rowell Criminal Justice Center in Millard with no bond.

Tucker said through further investigation, it was learned that McGill was a sex offender with a conviction during the 1980s in Forrest County, which is prior to laws being in place requiring sex offenders to register.
