Blue Devils edge Maroon Tide 7-6 in 10 innings

Carriere--Hayden Dunhurst singled home Zach Roussell with two outs in the bottom of the tenth inning to push Pearl River Central past Picayune 7-6 at the PRC Sports Complex on Friday night.

Picayune scored in the top of the first on a PRC error and a single by Elisha Hickman. The Blue Devils answered with a run in the second on an RBI single from Roussell and another run in the third on an RBI single by Caleb Tynes, which put PRC up 2-1.

The Blue Devils pushed across three runs in the fifth. After two walks to start the inning, Luke Smith replaced Tide starter Elisha Hickman. Picayune then had a throwing error to allow one run to score, a passed ball plated another one, and a ground out by Josh Kennedy brought in the third run for a 5-2 lead.

PRC's Austin Dean, who had pitched well for the first six innings, walked the leadoff batter to start the seventh and was replaced by Dunhurst. After a strikeout and two base on balls, the Maroon Tide got an RBI from Shaun Anderson on an infield single. Chad Stockstill walked to force in another run and Dunhurst was replaced on the mound by Josh Kennedy. Logan Ledet's fielders choice ground out brought in a run to tie the game. Elisha Hickman singled to right field to drive in the go ahead run.

PRC rallied in the bottom of the seventh when Caleb Tynes reached on an error and scored on a two out single by Roussell to tie the game at 6-6 and move it to extra innings where PRC won it in the bottom of the tenth.

Josh Kennedy and Luke Smith both pitched well in relief and worked out of some tough situations to extend the game into extra innings. Roussell had three hits for PRC and Hickman had three hits for Picayune.

Picayune (8-9, 0-6) will play at North Pike on Tuesday while PRC (14-3, 5-1) will host Hattiesburg in a game that could decide the number one seed for the region for the playoffs.
