PRCC’s Taggard named MACJC Player of the Week
POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College softball freshman Elizabeth Taggard of Picayune has earned recognition for her hot hitting at the plate last week.
Taggard, who fills the designated player role in the Wildcats’ batting order, was named MACJC Player of the Week in voting by sports information offices across the state.
Taggard batted .526 (10 of 19) with five doubles and 11 runs-batted-in as the Wildcats were 5-1 in three conference doubleheaders last week.
Taggard had one of only two hits in a 6-0 loss to Itawamba, then hit a game-tying, two-run double in PRCC’s 5-3 win in the second game against the eighth-ranked Indians.
She had two RBIs without a hit in an 8-0 win at Meridian, then had four hits in a 9-8 win over the Eagles in the nightcap. She had two double and a single, driving in two, in a 6-3 win at Coahoma, then drove in four runs in an 8-5 victory in the nightcap.
Taggard’s play has helped the Wildcats, now 18-10 overall and 11-3 in conference, move into sole possession of third place in the MACJC.
