Picayune’s Archery team 5-peats as South State Champions

Hattiesburg--The Maroon Tide Archery team kicked off the 2018 postseason in grand fashion by winning their 5th consecutive South State Championship. This year’s South State victory came in the newly formed MHSAA Division 3, which combines both 5A and 6A.

The Tide Archers posted a new school record total of 3313, which is the first time in the team’s five year history that they surpassed the 3300 mark. Rounding out the top 5 teams in MHSAA Division 3 were Petal (3274), Brandon (3209), d’Iberville (3148), and St. Martin (3134).

William Smith was the Team’s top overall shooter as he posted a new school record score of 294. His incredible total also earned him the honor of being 1st place overall male shooter for the South State Tournament. He was followed by Jonathan Gallo (289, tied for 6th among all male shooters in the tournament), Zach Alexander (273), and Brandon Magee (270).
Jordan Barrack was the Team’s top overall female shooter as she posted a score of 280 (tied for 17th among all female shooters in the tournament.
She was followed closely by Madyson Canulette (279), Helena Hebert (279), and Kathryn Spiers (274).
Other Team members whose scores contributed to the overall total were posted by Madisen Milliet (271), Shelly Thompson (269), Collen Penton (268), and Justin Dickerson (267).
The Tide Archers will now set their sights on the State Championship Tournament on Wednesday, April 4th in Jackson.
