High speed chase ends in arrest

Picayune Police and five other law enforcement agencies were involved in high speed this past Tuesday evening according to information from Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri.

At around 5:45pm, Kacy Nix, age 29, of 61 Pea Ridge Rd., Picayune, was visiting at 317 7th Street, at which time she stole a dark blue 2011 Nissan Altima. A” be on the lookout” (BOLO) was put in place for Nix and the stolen vehicle.

At around 7:45pm, a Picayune Police officer observed the vehicle turning into a driveway near the 1800 block of Highway 11 South. The officer was able to position his patrol car behind the stolen Nissan in an attempt of conducting a traffic stop, but the vehicle sped away attempting to flee the patrol officer at a high rate of speeding heading north on Highway 11. The vehicle turned onto Sam Mitchell Road, then right on Shorty Burgess Road, and then back to Highway 11.

At this time, the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department joined the pursuit. Nix went south on Highway 11 and turned onto Interstate 59 heading south. The vehicle driven by Nix reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour as it traveled toward Pearl River, LA, at which time the St Tammany Sheriff’s Department took the lead in the pursuit.

Nix continued on I-59 onto I-10, across the twin span bridge and into Orleans Parish in New Orleans East, before making a U-turn at Michoud Blvd. Picayune Police left the chase at this time with Louisiana State Police leading the pursuit. The pursuit finally ended when the stolen vehicle ran out of gas and came to rest on the shoulder of I-10 in Hancock County, after crossing back into Mississippi.

Picayune Police went to the scene and brought Nix back to Picayune where she was booked on Felony Taking of a Vehicle, Felony Eluding, Driving While License Suspended. St. Tammany Parish Sherriff’s issued warrants for Nix for Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, and Hit and Run.
