Maroon Tide blanks Bay 5-0

Picayune--Picayune’s Peyton Esslinger and Dylan Ramsay combined for a one hit shutout and the Maroon Tide beat Bay High 5-0 at Kent Kirkland Field to move their record to 5-1 on the season.

The Maroon Tide put the first run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth on Tyler Lauga’s sacrifice fly that scored Elisha Hickman who singled to start the inning.

Esslinger struck out seven Tigers (3-3) through four innings, allowing only a double in the top of the first. In the fourth, he walked two batters, but worked out of a jam. After he hit the leadoff man in the fifth, Essslinger was replaced by.Ramsay. Ramsay hit Joe Bell on the first pitch he threw, but worked out of the inning with a force out on a fielder’s choice grounder, a strikeout, and a pickoff. Ramsay faced eight batters in his final two innings and recorded four strikeouts.

Picayune got two unearned runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth when a foiled pickoff attempt by the Bay catcher sailed over the head of the third baseman and the ball rolled down the left field line almost to the wall after the left fielder let the ball get by him. Chad Stockstill drove in the other run in the frame with a double off the base of the right field wall.

Head Coach Cody Stogner talks with WRJW's Carey Meitzler after the game.

The Maroon Tide added a run in the sixth on Caleb Burnette’s RBI single to left that score Lauga who reached on an infield single to start the inning.

The two teams will play again on Friday in the Bay.
