Picayune loses two close games at Hattiesburg

V.J. Holt (5) snags a high pass against Hattiesburg

Hattiesburg--Both games were nip and tuck the entire way and one needed an overtime before deciding the outcome, but Hattiesburg prevailed winning the girls game 34-30 and the boys game 60-59 in overtime.

Girls: Picayune played the Hattiesburg down to the wire, but couldn't hold off the Tigers, the defending region champions. Alanna Smith led Picayune with 17 points and Camille Culpepper had 4 points and 12 rebounds for Picayune (10-12, 1-4).

Boys: Picayune had a chance to win it at the end of regulation with the scored

tied 44-44, but the shot bounced off the rim with :02 left.

Delrae Smith led Picayune with 18 points, Jordan Griffith had 13 points, and Marvun Arnold added 11 points for the Maroon Tide (17-8, 3-2).

Picayune will play at North Pike on Friday.
