Two suspects arrested after short vehicle chase on Memorial Blvd

While conducting proactive patrolling around 6:30pm on January 9th, Picayune Police Narcotics Division Detectives observed a blue Chevrolet truck that was traveling eastbound on Memorial Blvd nearTelly Road. The truck did not have a working tag light and Detectives observed the driver and passenger were not wearing seatbelts according to a press release from Assistant Police Chief Jeremy Magri.
The Detectives attempted to pull the truck over and conduct a traffic stop, but the truck sped away heading eastbound on Memorial Blvd and continued past the Interstate 59 overhead bridge merging onto Highway 43 South. The Detectives were finally able to conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of Hwy 43 South and Frontage Road due to heavy traffic at the intersection that forced the suspect to slow down and eventually stop.
As Detectives approached the vehicle, they came in contact with the driver, identified as Michael Shawn Nolf, also known as “Sir Nolf”, age 27, of 167 Blue Bird Lane, Picayune, and the passenger, identified as Sheridan Elizabeth Barnes, age 23, of 25 Dawn Millis Road, Picayune.
As Nolf exited the vehicle in response to one of the Detectives, Barnes was observed pointing a black and blue .22 caliber Ruger pistol at the Detective on the driver side of the vehicle. The other Detective came up the passenger side of the vehicle, unnoticed by Barnes, and was able to disarm Barnes and place her under arrest for Attempted Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer. Detectives recovered the firearm which was fully loaded including a bullet in the chamber. At this time, Detectives learned that Nolf did not possess valid insurance nor did he have a valid driver’s license. It was also learned that Nolf had handed Barnes the Ruger pistol and that Nolf was a convicted felon.
Detectives conducted a search of the truck and located a digital scale inside of a full-size Popeye’s soda cup, one container of lighter fluid, one container of Sulfuric acid, several lithium batteries, containers which contained Hydrochloric acid, and a damaged plastic bottle which was wrapped in electrical tape on the front floorboard in plain view. All these are commonly used to manufacture Crystal Methamphetamine.
During a further search of the vehicle, Detectives located several clear plastic bags, a crossbow, and several pieces of aluminum foil and smaller clear plastic bags that are commonly used to package Heroin and Crystal Methamphetamine. The Detectives seized $1,214.00 of miscellaneous bills in U.S. currency due to the cash being within close proximity of the narcotics.
According to the press release, Nolf was placed under arrest for two counts Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Possession of Precursor Chemicals, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Possession of Paraphernalia, No Insurance, No Driver’s License, No Seatbelt, Improper Equipment, and Failure to Yield When an Officer Signals. Barnes was subsequently charged with Possession of Paraphernalia and Possession of Precursor Chemicals.
Both Nolf and Barnes were transported to the Criminal Justice Center, booked on the said charges, and incarcerated.
