Girls win; Boys lose against Pascagoula

Picayune- Alanna Smith scored 22 points to lead the Picayune girls to a 49-28 win over Pascagoula, while the Panthers roared back in the second half behind Eric Smith’s 20 points, including six 3 pointers, to win the boys game 60-46 at the Maroon Tide’s Kelly Wise Memorial Gymnasium on Friday night.

Smith weaved her wave through the Panthers’ defense for 14 of her points on layups and short jump shots. Shaniah Bridges added 12 points and Camille Culpepper had 9 rebounds for Picayune (8-8).

In the boys game, Picayune built a 29-20 halftime lead after trailing 9-2 early in the first period. The Panthers got hot behind the shooting of Smith from behind the arc as he hit three treys in the third period. Delrae Smith hit a three pointer at the end of the third period to give Picayune a 39-38 after Pascagoula had went on an 18 to 5 run to take the lead.

Pascagoula started the fourth period scoring 15 unanswered points to build a 53-39 lead and never looked back.

Delrae Smith led Picayune with 16 points while Jalen Hall added 13 points and 13 rebounds for Picayune (13-4).

Picayune will open region play on Tuesday hosting Hattiesburg. Both games will be on WRJW 1320 AM, wrjwradio.com, and the WRJW app.
