City Council recognizes McDonald Funeral Home for 100 years of service

McDonald Funeral Home was recognized for 100 years of service to the community by the Picayune City Council at Tuesday’s meeting. A proclamation of the recognition was read by Mayor Ed Pinero.

The proclamation noted that McDonald Funeral Home was established in 1917 in Picayune by Claiborne McDonald, Jr. for the purpose of establishing funeral services for the people of Picayune as well as Pearl River and Hancock counties. The fourth generation of the McDonald family is now operating the business.

The proclamation also noted that the McDonald family has donated enumerable hours in leadership positions in the city by various family members including mayor, city council member, city attorney, school board president, four presidents of the Picayune Chamber of Commerce, three presidents of the Picayune Rotary Club, one president of the Picayune Kiwanis Club, two Citizens of the Year, and voluntary service on numerous governmental, civic, church, and other organizations.

In accepting the recognition, Steve McDonald said, “Thank you very much. We appreciate it. We are very proud that we have made it this far and we thank the whole community and area.”
