One dead and a suspect in custody in morning shooting in Picayune
Today at around 10:22am, Picayune Police officers were dispatched to the area of Bender and Beech Street in reference to a reported shooting. A female, Sarai Bagley, age 19, of 613 Lewis Circle, Picayune, had been shot and transported to Highland Community Hospital in a private vehicle according to Assistant Police Chief Jeremy Magri.
Through investigation, Picayune Police determined that Bagley allegedly attempted to flag down a vehicle driven by Kalista Turner, age 24, of 111 South Elmwood Street, Apt A-1, Picayune and the front seat passenger, Marlos Jones, age 18, of the same address as Turner, and an unidentified rear passenger.
The vehicle turned around and stopped at the intersection of Bender and Beech streets and Jones got out of the vehicle. At this time, Bagley and Jones got into a verbal altercation and Jones got back into the vehicle, and Bagley began to assault Jones through the front passenger side window, and then Jones allegedly shot Bagley in the chest area.
Magri said that Turner and Jones then drove the vehicle to the Picayune Police station and turned themselves in. They consented to a search of the vehicle and officers located 2 shell casings, a 9mm pistol, an AK-47 assault rifle, and a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.
Jones was taken into custody and booked for 2nd degree murder and possession of marijuana. Turner was taken into custody and booked with possession of marijuana.
