Poplarville wins 42-27 over Northeast Lauderdale in playoff opener
Poplarville--The Poplarville Hornets extended their record to 11-0 and advanced to the second round of the Class 4A playoffs with a 42-27 win over Northeast Lauderdale.
D.J. Travis, the star senior defensive back, made the play of the game in the second quarter with a 55 yard interception return for a touchdown to give the Hornets a 21-13 lead going into the half.
The Hornets rallied behind Travis' big play and were able to get the win utilizing a strong ground attack lead by sophomore running back Corey Knight who rushed for nearly 200 yards and a touchdown, while Austin Bolton ran for 3 touchdowns.
Poplarville will go on the road next week traveling to play St. Stanislaus in round two. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pme ground.
