In the span of two hours, Picayune Narcotic Detectives made six arrests in two separate incidents on October 25th.

Just after 6:00pm, detectives were conducting proactive criminal patrols on Highway 11 South near Interstate 59 in Nicholson, when they observed a Red Nissan SUV traveling North at a high rate of speed. Detectives observed the vehicle leave the road several times and conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Highway 11 and Jackson Landing Road.

Robert Lee Courtiade

When the detectives approached the vehicle, they could smell a strong odor of what smelled like burnt marijuana. Detectives asked the driver, Robert Lee Courtiade, age 23, of 1020 McKinley Street, Waveland, MS, to exit the vehicle.

Detectives conducted a search of the vehicle and found one clear bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, one brown hand rolled cigar containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, one torch lighter on the front driver side floor board, one pink bag containing several white pills identified to be Tramadol (Schedule IV) and Clonzapam (Schedule IV) inside of the ashtray.

Upon a further search of the vehicle, detectives found six yellow plastic bags containing a crystal substance believed to be Crystal Methamphetamine, inside the driver’s seat. Detectives also located one blue digital scale which contained a green leafy substance residue believed to be marijuana and a crystal substance believed to be Crystal Methamphetamine along with several clear and yellow bags commonly used to package illegal narcotics.

Courtiade was placed under arrest for two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana in a Motor Vehicle, two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Careless Driving. Courtiade was transported to the Criminal Justice Center and booked on the said charges and incarcerated.

At around 8:00pm on October 25th, Picayune Narcotic Detectives received several complaints about illegal narcotic sales and loitering occurring at the corner of Kingsway Drive and Brookdale Drive. When detectives arrived at the scene, they observed five suspects standing in the roadway next to the no loitering sign. Detectives made contact with the suspects and ordered them to place their hands on the detective’s patrol car.

One of the suspects, later identified as Kevin Dewayne Jenkins, age 43, of 1223 Kingsway Drive, Apartment F24, of Picayune, refused to cooperate and became irate and began to use vulgar and obscene language toward the detectives. Jenkins refused several orders and commands from the detectives. Detectives were finally able to de-escalate the situation with Jenkins, at which time, they conducted a search on Jenkins.

Detectives located one clear bag containing several blue pills inscribed with a dolphin, several pink pills inscribed with a dolphin, and several yellow pills inscribed with a President Donald Trump head, all located in Jenkins’ front right pants pocket. The pills were believed to be Ecstasy and commonly stamped with different signs and symbols.
