Poplarville wins a barn burner 54-36 over Greene County

The Poplarville Hornets stayed a perfect 6-0 on the season with a 54-36 shootout win over the previously unbeaten Greene County Wildcats. In their first district game of the year, the Hornets ran past the Wildcats finishing the game with 7 rushing touchdowns.
Senior running back Austin Bolton led the way for the Hornets with 4 touchdowns and 278 yards on 23 carries, but got plenty of help in the
Wing -T offense with fellow senior RB Roosevelt Raine also having a big night with 19 carries for 156 yards and a touchdown. The Hornets needed the firepower against a Greene County offense that put up 29 points in the first half. Derrick Grice, their senior quarterback, accounted for 5 touchdowns for the Wildcats (6-1, 0-1).
The Hornets defense once again made the needed adjustments and played much better in the second half, which has become a trademark of this team. Two big defensive plays on night contributed to the win. Mario Barnes had a big 5 yard fumble return for a defensive touchdown, and Kyle Chambliss sealed the win with a late interception. The Hornets (6-0, 1-0) travel to Brooklyn to take on Forrest County AHS next Friday.
