Pearl River Central to battle Wayne County

Pearl River Central will be at home on Friday as the Wayne County War Eagles come calling in Region 4-5A action at Kenneth L. Hendrix Stadium in Carriere.

The Blue Devils (0-5, 0-1) opened region play last week and trailed Long Beach 28-20 with six minutes left in the game before the Bearcats scored a late touchdown to win the game 35-20. Wayne County (2-3, 0-1) lost to Picayune 30-22 last Friday.

"They are a good football team with a really good defensive front. We were able to run the ball real well last week and it will be a challenge to do so this week against Wayne County," said PRC Head Coach Larry Dolan.

"Offensively, they spread you out and run the ball extremely well. We will have our work cut out for us," Dolan stated.

The Blue Devils got a lift last week with the addition of transfer Kalvin Briggs. Briggs (5-11,185, Soph) ran for 81 yards on 13 carries and Dolan liked what he saw.

"Kalvin is hard-nosed and he doesn't go down easy. He really gave us a spark and allowed us to spread the ball around," Dolan commented.

"Offensively, we've got to control the ball and keep the clock running. And we have to play better on defense," Dolan said as the keys for his team.
