Blue Devils to host Long Beach
Pearl River Central will open region play on Friday hosting a very solid Long Beach Bearcat team at Kenneth L. Hendrix Stadium in Carriere.
PRC Head Coach Larry Dolan was impressed with what he saw of the Bearcats on film.
“They look really good. A couple of good running backs, good receivers, and the quarterback’s a good a passer and runner,” Dolan stated.
The quarterback is sophomore Cade Crosby (5-11, 175) who has completed 57 of 87 for 692 yards and 6 touchdowns. Crosby has rushed for 191 yards and a touchdown as well.
Long Beach running back Dennis Andrews has 69 carries for 489 yards and has scored 8 touchdowns. Charile Wescovich is their leading receiver with 18 catches for 235 yards while Kai Vancourt has caught 15 passes for 198 yards.
“We expect them to spread it out and throw it around quite a bit. For us, we’ve just got to play every play with better technique.”
Looking at his own team, Dolan saw some good things with his Blue Devils.
“We’ve had a good week of practice and we are better than we were last week. Again, we’ve just got to execute better,” said Dolan.
Offensively, the Blue Devils moved the ball last week at St. Stanislaus, but penalties and miscues plagued PRC against a very strong Rockachaw team. Senior RB/QB Tristian Anderson has accounted for 523 yards of total offense for PRC.
Defensively, PRC got a boost from transfer defensive lineman Ethan Everett.
“We’ve had some injuries on the defensive line and he (Everett) has come in and given us a boost. He’s doing a good job and just needs to get in game shape,” Dolan shared about the addition of Everett.
Junior Kobe Whitehead is the Blue Devils’ leading tackler with 42.
PRC will have a special ceremony that will honor all military personnel and emergency responders prior the game at 6:30pm.
“Having served myself, we just want these people to know how special they are and how much we appreciate their sacrifices and duty. At PRC, our community is thankful to all of those who have and currently serve and protect,” Dolan stated.
The Blue Devils broadcast will be available on wrjwradio.com and the WRJW smart phone app with Eli Ouder (play by play), Jim Eastridge (color commentator), and Tim Craft (sideline reporter).
The evening gets started with the Paw Paw’s Campers and Cars Pregame Show at 6:30pm.
