PRC School Board of Trustees approve election cycle corrections
Board members (L-R): Rodney Dyess, Natalie Glorioso, Elaine Voss, Jeff Jones.
The Pearl River County School District Board of Trustees approved amending the board election cycles during Monday's regular scheduled meeting. It had came to the attention of the School District Board of Trustees that the members of the board were not in the proper election cycle with regard to their terms of office.
Superintendent Alan Lumpkin stated, "We researched it and our attorney Jim Keith researched it, and we were in cycle at one time, but somewhere, maybe a special election, we became out of cycle. The school board elections should fall on a general election (year). It was falling this year and there was not a general election. Mr. Keith put together a proposal to get us (the district) back on schedule. We will not have any elections this year, but we will have four next year."
After consulting with legal counsel, Jim Keith, and the Mississippi Attorney General’s office, the Board adopted the following procedures to correct this situation as established in conjunction with the Attorney General’s office:
In District 1, the election should have been held in the fall of 2016. The current office holder, Mr. Rodney Dyess, is holding over at the present time. An election will be held at the next general election scheduled for November, 2018, for the successful candidate to serve the remainder of the unexpired term. The unexpired term will run through the end of 2022. An election will be held in November 2022, for a full six-year term. District 1 will be back on the proper cycle at that time.
In District 2, the election should have been held in the fall of 2016. The current office holder, Mr. Jeremy Weir, is holding over at the present time. An election will be held at the next general election scheduled for November, 2018, for the successful candidate to serve the remainder of the unexpired term. The unexpired term will run through the end of 2022. An election will be held in November 2022, for a full six-year term. District 2 will be back on the proper cycle at that time.
In District 3, Ms. Natalie Glorioso has been serving since January, 2014. The general election for District3 is scheduled for November, 2018, which will be for a full six-year team. District 3 will be back on the proper cycle at that time.
In District 4, Mr. Jeff Jones has been serving since January, 2014. The general election for District 4 is scheduled for November, 2018, which will be for a full six-year term. District 4 will be back on the proper cycle at that time.
In District 5, Ms. Elaine Voss has been serving since January 2016. The election for District 5 should have taken place in November, 2014. The next general election for District 5 is scheduled for November, 2020, at which time an election will be held for a full six-year team. District will be back on the proper cycle at that time.
