Hornets sting Stone 20-14 to remain unbeaten

Perkinston--The Poplarville Hornets won a hard fought 20-14 game over the Stone TomCats at A.L. May Memorial Stadium to remain unbeaten.

The Hornets struck first with a 8 yard touchdown run by Tyson Holston with 11:32 left in the second quarter making it 6-0.

Stone (2-1) answered quickly after a long kickoff return by Enrique Whaley down to the 4 yard line. McCray had a 4 yard touchdown run to make it 7-6.

Arrington added a touchdown run before the half to give Stone a 14-6 lead at the half. After a scoreless third quarter, Austin Bolton, the phenomenal Poplarville running, broke loose for a 56 yard run to setup a 5 yard touchdown run bringing the score to 14-12 with 6:14 left in the fourth quarter.

Just moments later Bolton hit again with a 38 yard touchdown run to put the Hornets on top 20-14.

The Hornets defense was dominating in the second half allowing only one first down. Tyson Holston and Ross Barnett each had interceptions for the stingy Hornets defense. Austin Bolton had 24 carries for 199 yards with 2 touchdowns. Poplarville move to 4-0 on the year and will travel to Heidelburg on Friday.
