Poplarville man arrested for murder of his brother

The Pearl River County Sheriff's Department received a call around 11:30am on Tuesday from a county resident asking the Sheriff's Department to go and perform a welfare check (ensure the person was okay) on a relative at 40 Newman Road in the Ford's Creek community that she had been trying to contact for a few days.

Sheriff David Allison said that when deputies arrived on the scene and entered the home, they saw the victim sitting on a couch inside the living room with multiple gunshot wounds. The deputies believed the victim, John Stuart, age 53, of the same address, to be deceased and called for investigators to be dispatched to the scene to begin an investigation.

According to Sheriff Allison, his investigators and the U.S. Marshall Service 'Task Force, were in the Long Beach, MS area looking for the suspect, Steven Stuart, age 60, of Long Beach, when they happened to see the suspect's vehicle parked at an attorney's office. Authorities went into the law office and arrested Stuart who was there apparently speaking with an attorney about defending him in the case.

Sheriff Allison said that Steven Stuart was incarcerated in the Lenior-Rowell Correctional Center in Millard and the investigation is ongoing. Allison also added that Steven Stuart will most likely go before a judge today (Thursday).
