Picayune Police Department Chief Bryan Dawsey and Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri were recognized by the office of the Secretary of Defense with the prestigious Employer Support of the National Guard and Reserve award.

The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for employees and their families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.

An employee of the Picayune Police Department submitted an application and Chief Dawsey and Assistant Chief Magri both received this very unique award.

The employee, who asked to remain anonymous due to their role at the police department, stated this about their nomination, “I’ve worked several places where the ability to serve in the National Guard and work a jobe are not always recognized or appreciated. It’s rare to see an employer do what you all have done here in Picayune. You show concern for our schedules, ensure time with our families, work with us when we have to be out for duty or training, and also promote us in spite of known scheduled deployments. In talking with other people in the Guard at other law enforcement agencies, what happens in Picayune is very rare. It’s almost unheard of to see promotions for guardsmen, but not in Picayune. It’s also obvious that because of our military background, you trust us and give us opportunities to put that training to use. The support, the understanding, the leadership is unique in regards to your understanding of what it requires for someone to be in the Guard. Both of you go above and beyond to look after us. You are true patriots and are most worthy to receive this award.”

Congratulations to Chief Bryan Dawsey and Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri on being recognized for this award.
