PRC Class of 2017 holds commencement
The Class of 2017 of Pearl River Central High School held their commencement at Pearl River Community College’s White Coliseum before a packed house that forced many people outside due to a lack of seats and standing room for the overflow crowd of family, friends, and supporters.
Valedictorian Jamie Cheyenne Powell address her class stating “I am humbled to stand here in front of everyone today. The greatest thing quality about this class is that we are competitive and brave and have the ability to make changes and take action.”
Powell used a quote from Bradley Whitworth to emphasize her statement. “Take action. Every story you’ve ever connected with, every leader you’ve ever admired, every puny little thing that you’ve ever accomplished is the result of taking action.”
Salutatorian Anna Kristen Walton opened her address saying “I would like to thank every parent, teacher, and administrator for their contribution toward our achievement we are celebrating here tonight.’
Walton used a quote from Walt Disney to challenge her classmates that states “The difference between winning and losing is most often, not quitting.”
“When we started kindergarten, graduation seemed so far away. Thirteen years is a long road and we thought the day would never come. Through our persistence and hard work, we have achieved a measure of success and it has been the guiding force to bring us to this commencement occasion.”
The Class of 2017 graduated two hundred eleven students.
