Carriere native will seek final rose on 'The Bachelorette'

Nick Viall sent Rachel Lindsey home broken hearted at the end of Season 21 of ABC’s the Bachelor. But that didn’t stop her from continuing to look for love on a reality show, except this time she’s in charge — and she may just get swept off her feet by a man from Carriere.

Lindsay is the star of season 13 of "The Bachelorette" on ABC, and Bryce Powers, is one of 31 contestants vying to steal her heart and get the final rose.

Powers, 30, is a firefighter living in Orlando, according to ABC's website. But Justin Branden, a longtime friend of Powers and former resident of Carriere as well, said Powers is a “homegrown Blue Devil.” Branden said the Powers family lived off Openwood Drive by the PRC baseball field, and that Powers grew up in Pearl River County.

On the season premier, Monday night, Powers appeared full of confidence and swept Lindsay right off her feet... Literally.

“I never dreamed you could be this beautiful.” Powers told Lindsay while still holding her 'princess style.'

While the move may have been seen as too extreme or too much too fast, Lindsay clearly liked it, because she presented Powers with a rose, making him one of 23 men who will go on to compete for her affection another week.

Though he may have won over Lindsay in episode one, Powers got himself into some hot water before the show even started.

In his biography on the network’s website, which was released last week, Powers answered a series of questions, and there was one response that got members of the LGBT community all riled up.

When asked what his biggest dating fear was, Bryce replied: “The chick is actually a dude.”

No doubt nothing more than an attempt to be funny with a silly answer, to a silly question, that he thought about for all of half a second. But the six word answer caused a blow up of hateful tweets and angry blogs once it started circulating the unforgiving internet.

It didn’t take long however, for friends of Powers to jump to his defense with posts and hashtags (such as #teambryce) on social media.

Powers doesn't seem to be too upset about the ugly response his remarks brought, (like being called a human Sponge Bob Square Pants or being told his head looks like a slice of bread), infact he's rolling with it...

Tune into ABC every Monday night to watch Powers and the other contestants compete for Lindsay's heart. May the best bread... I mean man win.
