Arrests made by Pearl River County Sheriff's department
On May 7th, Pearl River County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call on Old Creek Road in Picayune in regards to a theft. The caller, identified as 34 year old Dwight Crawford of Picayune, reported that his Honda ATV Side by Side was stolen.
After investigating, deputies discovered that Crawford had staged the theft in an attempt to collect insurance money. Deputies arrested Crawford on the morning of May 15th for attempted insurance fraud and filing a false police report. Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Marc Ogden reported Crawford had bonded out on Tuesday.
On May 15th, Pearl River County Sherriff deputies arrested a Poplarville man who was apparently running “a chop shop” from his residence.
The Sheriff’s Office received word from Washington Parish Sheriff’s Department about a stolen Washington Parish Sheriff’s vehicle being located on 450 Frank Smith Road in Poplarville. Pearl River County Deputies executed a search warrant on the residence and recovered three stolen vehicles as well as parts and other items on the property.
Deputies believe the owner of the property, identified as 45 year old Billy Granger Jr. of Poplarville, was attempting to operate a chop shop in the location when vehicles recovered at Granger’s residence had their identification numbers either altered or erased and parts were removed from the vehicles.
Deputies arrested Granger for operating a chop shop. Chief Investigator Marc Ogden said that Granger bonded out on Tuesday.
