Fees for Chancery Clerk office going due to state legislative mandate

At yesterday’s meeting of the Pearl River County Board of Supervisors, Chancery Clerk Melinda Bowman informed the board of fee increases that will go into effect on January 1, 2020 for services in the Chancery Clerk offices. Bowman explained that the increases came from the state of Mississippi Senate Bill 2827 that passed in last year’s session and was signed into law on April 16, 2019 by Governor Phil Bryant..

A $1.00 archive fee, authorized and recommended by the state, was adopted by the county and will be added to transactions of which 50 cents will go to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History and 50 cents will stay in the county to help with the retention of old records that may have been damaged or molded during the document’s lifetime. The Department of Archives and History will use the money they receive to come on site and make recommendations to the county on how to handle.

Bowman also presented the new schedule of fees adopted by the state legislative to be charged for services in the form of a statewide mandate.

The new fees schedule effective January 1, 2020 and the current fees schedule are shown below:
