Pearl River welcomes Southwest for Homecoming
POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Poplarville is sure to be buzzing Saturday as Pearl River hosts MACJC South foe Southwest at Dobie Holden Stadium for Homecoming.
Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
The game will be streamed at PRCCAthletics.com and PRCCMedia.com/gold with David Sutton calling the action.
The game will also be carried on WRJW 1320 AM in Picayune, WCJU 1450 AM in Columbia, WCJU 104.9 FM in Prentiss and both WHSY 950 AM and WHSY 105.9 FM in Hattiesburg. Carey Meitzler will provide the play-by-play with Barry Harper adding color commentary and Jacob Hickman delivering insight from the sideline.
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
Pearl River (1-5 overall; 0-4 MACJC South) enters its second straight Saturday Homecoming contest after falling at Jones College 49-6.
Terrence Humphrey (Clarksdale) has completed 48.7 percent of his passes for 671 yards and five touchdowns. He has also rushed for a touchdown.
Jaylan Wilson (Bay St. Louis; Bay) has been Humphrey’s most trusted receiver, leading the team in receptions (18), yards (197) and touchdowns (2). Latreal Jones (Taylorsville), Khalil Levy (Ocean Springs) and Stetson Moore (Philadelphia) round out PRCC’s receiving leaders. Jones has caught nine passes for 157 yards and a touchdown; Levy has caught nine passes for 144 yards and a score; and Moore has eight catches for 124 yards.
Lance Stewart (Oxford; Lafayette County) is among the state’s leading rushers. The freshman has rushed for 366 yards and one touchdown on 88 carries. His 61 yards-per-game rank ninth among his MACJC peers.
Defensively, the Wildcats are led by Noah Mitchell (Leakesville; Greene County) and his 45 tackles. Mitchell’s nine tackles-per-game are second-best in the MACJC.
Kobe Cole (Flora; Madison Central) and Darrell Sims Jr. (Bassfield; Jefferson Davis) are close behind with 39 and 37 tackles respectively. Sims also leads PRCC with five tackles-for-loss.
One of the bright spots for the Wildcats has been the play of freshman Gayden Hence (Hattiesburg). The special teamer is averaging 40.6 yards per punt, which ranks seventh in the NJCAA. His total yardage of 1,827 is second nationally.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Southwest (0-6; 0-4) enters Saturday’s contest averaging 8.8 points per game while allowing 27.7.
Two quarterbacks — Keyvont Baines and Ja’Tyler Moore — have combined to throw for 457 yards with four interceptions and no touchdowns on 35 of 82 passing.
Collectively the Bears have rushed for 423 yards, led by Zarious Keyes and his 249 yards on 54 carries.
Southwest’s leading receiver is Da’Bryan Magee with 12 receptions for 151 yards.
Defensively, Tamos Stevenson leads the Bears — and MACJC — with 60 tackles. The team has combined for nine sacks and seven interceptions.
SERIES
PRCC holds a 60-15-3 advantage over Southwest and holds a 3-2 advantage over the last five seasons.
HOMECOMING WEEKEND
Pearl River will have plenty going on around Saturday's Homecoming. The cheer squad is hosting a clinic at the Marvin R. White Coliseum 10 a.m.-noon; The PRCC Museum is hosting exhibits starting at 10 a.m.; Voices Ensemble performs at the Alumni House at 10:30 a.m.; there's a FREE Community Carnival from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; the Homecoming and Sports Hall of Fame luncheon at the Olivia Bender Cafeteria begins at 11 a.m.; and the Class of 1969 Reunion will be in the South end zone beginning at 1 p.m.

This year's inductees are men's soccer All-American Michael Allizzo, women's basketball All-American Datishella Byrd, football All-Americans Matthew Lott and Charlie Reeve, and football standout Richard Morgan.
