Picayune shuts out Gautier 55-0

Picayune—Cameron Thomas scored on Picayune’s first offensive play of the game and the Maroon Tide rolled to a 55-0 win over the Gautier Gators at Lee-Triplett Stadium on homecoming night.

Gautier had the ball first and after earning two first downs, the Gators’ punter fumbled a snap and was unable to get away a punt allowing the Maroon Tide took over at the Gautier 46. Thomas scored on the next play from 46 yards out with 7:54 left in the first quarter. Jakail Myers ran the ball in for a two point conversion after having trouble with the snap on the wet turf.

Jalen Hall got the ball back for Picayune with an interception. The Maroon Tide went on a 8 play 56 yard drive with Austin Samples scoring on a 4 yard run with :39 left in the quarter. Samples kicked the extra point for a 15-0 lead.

Picayune forced a Gautier fumble on the ensuing kickoff and the Maroon Tide recovered the ball at the Gautier 36. Three plays later, Thomas weaved his way in for a 18 yard touchdown to make 21-0 with 11:54 to play in the half. The point after was wide left.

After a Gautier punt on their next possession, Thomas took off a 85 touchdown run with 9:21 left in the half to make 27-0 after the point after was wide left again.

After another Gator punt, Picayune went 94 yards on 10 plays with Samples scoring on another 4 yard run with 2:03 left in the half. Samples’ extra point was good and Picayune led 34-0.

Picayune scored on the first possession of the second half on a 18 yard pass from Myers to Hall. Samples’ extra point made it 41-0 with 9:40 left in the third quarter.

Chad Dudenhefer scored on a 15 yard run and Nick Doan added a 53 yard run to close out the scoring.

Picayune amassed 541 yards of rushing. Thomas had 295 yards on 12 carries and freshman Dante Dowdell had 146 yards on 10 carries.

Picayune (6-0, 2-0) travels to Hattiesburg next week.

Aliciana Carter was crowned Homecoming Queen in the pregame ceremonies.
