ABOUT THE WILDCATS
The Wildcats (1-3 overall, 0-2 MACJC South) enter Thursday’s contest after falling at East Central 35-0 a week ago. South Alabama commit Ron Baker (Prentiss; Jefferson Davis) had a big game in Decatur, recording three tackles with an interception and fumble recovery.
Baker is one of a number of big-time players on the Wildcat defense, which is led by linebacker Noah Mitchell (Leakesville; Greene County). Despite missing one game, Mitchell leads PRCC with 34 total tackles. Kobe Cole (Madison; Madison Central) and Darrell Sims Jr. (Bassfield; Jefferson Davis) are close behind with 31 tackles apiece.
Offensively, the Wildcats have seen four quarterbacks attempt passes this season. Terrence Humphrey (Clarksdale) leads all PRCC signal callers with 499 yards and four touchdowns. Jakob Greer (Waveland; St. Stanislaus) saw the bulk of the action behind center a week ago and has thrown for 117 yards through four games.
Jaylan Wilson (Bay St. Louis; Bay) leads PRCC receivers with 12 receptions; he’s third on the team with 131 yards. Latreal Jones (Taylorsville) and Khalil Levy (Ocean Springs) both have eight receptions for 148 and 147 yards respectively.
Lance Stewart (Oxford; Lafayette County) leads all Pearl River running backs with 281 yards on 65 carries.
ABOUT THE EAGLES
The Eagles (3-1, 1-1) visit Poplarville fresh off of a 10-0 victory against Southwest. HCC opened the season by up-ending East Mississippi 24-16. The Eagles then nipped Delta 19-17 before falling at Jones College 31-7.
Running back Don Ragsdale has been a workhorse for HCC, rushing 109 times for 432 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Elijah Walker has completed 47.5 percent of his passes for 449 yards and two touchdowns while also throwing four interceptions. The only HCC receiver to eclipse 100 yards is Javon Antonio, who has caught eight passes for 113 yards and one touchdown.
Hinds’ defense is led by Amos Robinson and Kyree Fields, who have 21 and 20 tackles respectively.
Thursday will feature a number of themes. The game will be a “gold out” where fans are asked to wear their brightest gold PRCC gear to support the Wildcats.
Southern Miss will be on campus, visiting with fans and students as they enter the stadium.
The game will also serve as Junior/Senior Night, where high school juniors and seniors can meet with PRCC recruiters, win giveaway prizes and learn more about Pearl River.
Additionally, NASA Stennis Space Center will be in Poplarville on Thursday to promote their next voyage to the moon. NASA will have nine activity booths set up, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
In an effort to help the family of 13-year-old Boston Brooks Comeaux, who was killed in a car crash Sept. 14, Pearl River is hosting “Buckets for Boston.” Donations will be collected to help the Comeaux family.
The alumni and employee tailgating will be provided by Highland Community Hospital.
Admission is free as part of Pearl River’s ongoing celebration following a seventh straight semester of increased enrollment.
