Maroon Tide stays unbeaten with 53-15 win at Poplarville

Poplarville—Picayune scored on their first four possessions and used that fast start to post a 53-15 win over the Poplarville Hornets in the last non-region game for the Maroon Tide (4-0).

Jalen Hall took a hand off and raced 68 yards for a touchdown on the Maroon Tide’s fifth play from scrimmage and Austin Samples’ point after made it 7-0 with 10:16 on the clock.

After a Hornet punt, Picayune got a 7 yard touchdown run from Kade Turnage and Samples’ extra point made it 14-0 with 5:37 left in the first quarter.

Samples scored from 5 yards out on the next possession and Cameron Thomas, who ran for 198 yards on 20 carries, added a 55 yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter to push the lead to 28-0 after Samples converted both extra points.

Samples kicked a 22 yard field goal with 2:38 left in the second quarter.

Jakail Myers finished out the Maroon Tide scoring with near perfect throw to Jashawn Lee that went for a 56 yard touchdown with :51 left. Myers, also the holder for Maroon Tide special teams, had to scramble on the point after attempt and ran the ball in for the two point conversion to make 39-0 at the half.

Dante Dowdell (4 yards) and Dorian Robinson (19 yards) scored for Picayune in the second half.

Poplarville scored their points on a 2 yard run by Greg Swan (1:27 left in the third quarter) and a 10 yard run by Casin Sones (:13 left in the game). Sones also ran for a two point conversion for the Hornets (1-4).
