Supervisors approve Sheriff's budget adjustment request

The Pearl River County Board of Supervisors met on Wednesday morning in Poplarville with an agenda that covered normal business items for approval, updates on existing projects, and financial related requests.

Sheriff David Allison asked the board to move $50,000 from his jail budget to his Sheriff Administration budget. At the board’s previous budget hearing, Allison had asked for the same amount to be moved in the same manner. Sheriff Allison said the request stems from he and his staff looking at the jail census trending and expenses which indicates they will be able to operate the jail at a lower spending amount than was previously approved.

Also during the meeting, County Engineer Les Dungan informed the board that the work on the new bridge on McNeill Steephollow Road is complete and the contractor is working on the approach roadway. He said the paving should be completed in about three weeks.

The work on the bridge on Lakeside Drive in the Anchor Lake Subdivision is scheduled to begin on Thursday (September 19) with the closure of the bridge. Dungan said the bridge will be closed approximately six to eight weeks while it is being replaced. During this time, traffic will be diverted across the dam. For emergency access, in the event of heavy rain, traffic will utilize Baucum Road.
