Pearl River special teams shine in 32-9 loss to No. 11 Co-Lin
POPLARVILLE, Miss.— Pearl River’s special teams came up with several big plays but the Wildcats couldn’t hold off No. 11 Copiah-Lincoln, falling 32-9 at Dobie Holden Stadium on Thursday.
“Our kids played hard for the entire game and made some big plays in those areas,” PRCC coach Ted Egger said. “There are a lot of things in all three phases of the game that we have to continue to get better at and work at to get ourselves ready for next week.”
The Wildcats (1-2 overall, 0-1 MACJC South) will look to get back in the win column next Thursday when they visit East Central for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.

SCORING SUMMARY
The Wildcats and Wolves’ defenses held strong in the first half with the two units trading three-and-outs with the exception of an early 19-yard touchdown pass by Co-Lin. The Wolves missed the ensuing PAT and led 6-0.
The game opened up in the second half as the visitors recorded a safety and then back-to-back touchdown passes to build a 22-0 lead.
The Wildcats received a spark late in the second quarter from its defense. Co-Lin set up for a 26-yard field goal attempt, but after three straight flags on the visitors Kobe Cole (Madison; Madison Central) broke through the Wolves’ protection to block the punt. Sirvares Snow (Newton) swooped in, scooped up the loose ball and took off for the opposite end zone. The speedy defensive back made two Wolves miss and was gone for a 76-yard touchdown that got PRCC on the scoreboard 22-7.
The Wolves (3-0, 1-0) extended their lead to 32-7 early in the third on a field goal and 57-yard touchdown pass.

Late in the frame PRCC’s special teams came through for the second time in the game. The Wildcats’ defense held strong deep in Co-Lin’s territory, forcing the Wolves to punt out of their own end zone.
The Wildcats broke through the protection and Co-Lin’s kicker never got a handle on the ball, allowing PRCC to record a safety.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
Terrence Humphrey (Clarksdale), Jakob Greer (Waveland; St. Stanislaus) and John Keller (Canton, Ohio; North Canton Hoover) combined to complete 7 of 22 passes for 83 yards with the longest completion being a 48-yarder to Latreal Jones (Taylorsville).
Branson Davis (Hurley; East Central) made the most of his first career start at linebacker, tying Darrell Sims Jr. (Bassfield; Jefferson Davis) for the team lead in solo tackles with six. Darrell Luter Jr. (Hattiesburg; Oak Grove) led PRCC with four pass breakups.
