POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Fans can get a sneak peek at the 2019 Pearl River Wildcats on Thursday Aug. 22 as part of the annual "Meet The Wildcats" festivities at historic Dobie Holden Stadium.
The event, which serves as an unofficial kickoff for the 2019-20 school year, starts at 5:30 p.m.
Admission is free. Select concession options will be available.
Meet The Wildcats will include introductions for Pearl River’s football, men’s and women’s soccer, rodeo, women’s cross country as well as the new volleyball program. Additionally, the PRCC cheer squad, Spirit of the River marching band and String of Pearls will perform. PRCC mascot W.C. Rivers will be available for photos.
Wildcat introductions will be built around the football team’s scrimmage, which is scheduled to kickoff at 6 p.m.
Coach Ted Egger is back to lead the Wildcats for a third season. PRCC opens the season Aug. 29 at Itawamba and then visits East Mississippi on Sept. 5 before returning to Dobie Holden Stadium to host Copiah-Lincoln on Sept. 12. Fans will notice some major changes at the stadium after PRCC installed a state-of-the-art turf during the offseason.
The Wildcats and Mississippi junior college athletics will enter a new age this season with the addition of the state’s first volleyball program. Led by Haley Chatham, the Wildcats will make their official debut Aug. 24 against Coastal Alabama-East. Home matches will be played at Shivers Gymnasium.
Pearl River’s men’s and women’s soccer teams open their respective seasons Aug. 26 at Hinds. After playing two days later at LSU-Eunice, the Wildcats will play their home opener Aug. 30 against Meridian at 5 p.m. The men’s squad is led by former PRCC All-American Drew Gallant, back for his fourth season. The women are led by new head coach Henrik Madsen.
Robby Shaw is back to lead Pearl River’s rodeo program. The Wildcats have five competitions this season, beginning Sept. 19-21 at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri. PRCC also visits West Alabama on Sept. 26-28, Three Rivers College on Oct. 3-5, Southern Arkansas Oct. 31-Nov. 2 and Murray State on Nov. 21-23.

All Pearl River football games will once again be livestreamed at PRCCAthletics.com and PRCCMedia.com. Games will also be broadcast on WRJW 1320 AM in Picayune, WCJU 1450 AM in Columbia, WCJU 104.9 FM in Prentiss, and both WHSY 950 AM and WHSY 105.9 FM in Hattiesburg.
