Pearl River Central sweeps Wayne County


The Pearl River Central Blue Devils advanced to the 2nd round of the Class 5A playoffs by sweeping Wayne County. The Blue Devils got complete game pitching performances from Austin Dean and Austin Diebold.

Friday: PRC 4 Wayne County 3

Down 3-0 after three innings, Pearl River Central rallied to tie the game with two runs in the 4th inning and another run in the 5th inning on a tape measure home run by Hayden Dunhurst.

The Blue Devils won the game in bottom of the seventh when Cameron Brunson led off the inning with a double and scored one batter later on Mason Treat’s sacrifice fly.

Austin Dean went the entire route for the Blue Devils striking 7 War Eagle batters while scattering 6 hits.

Saturday: PRC 5 Wayne County 2 (8 innings)

The Blue Devils scored two runs in the 4th inning and Wayne County scored runs in the 5th and 7th to send the game to extra innings.

Cameron Brunson singled to start the 8th for the Blue Devils. PRC then used two walks, a sacrifice bunt, another walk, and a fielder’s choice to score their 3 runs.

Austin Diebold struck out 4 and scattered 8 hits on the mound for PRC (19-9).

The Blue Devils will travel to West Harrison on Thursday to begin their best of 3 series with the Hurricanes.
