Picayune Police arrest local man during safety checkpoint

In a press release, Captain Dustin Moeller provided details of an arrest made during a safety checkpoint on North Beech Street near Westchester Road.

According to Moeller’s press release, the Picayune Police Narcotics Division and Picayune Police Patrol Division were conducting a safety checkpoint on December 20th at approximately 12:45 pm when they made contact with a silver Volkswagon being driven by a subject identified as Payton Samuel Babb, age 20, 146 Westchester Drive, Picayune.

The detectives smelled a strong odor of what appeared to be Marijuana emitting from the vehicle Babb was driving.

Through investigation, detectives learned that Babb had allegedly possessed out of state driver’s license while living in Mississippi.

Detectives conducted a search of the vehicle and located a large clear plastic clear bag inside the center console containing several DANK Durban Poison Vape THC cartridges, several DANK Fruity Pebbles THC cartridges, a vape, and additional clear plastic bag containing folded wax paper containing a brown wax like substance believed to be Wax. Wax is highly concentrated form of THC similar to Hash, that is a waxy substance and is smoked to get high according to Moeller.

Babb was placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute and Improper Out of State Driver’s License. He was transported to the Criminal Justice Center where he was booked and incarcerated.
