Local man arrested for illegal drugs after resisting arrest
On November 24, 2018, at around 1:23 a.m., Picayune Assistant Police Chief Jeremy Magri said that a Picayune Police Patrol Officer was patrolling the area of Carroll Street near South Grady Avenue when the officer observed two males wearing thick jackets and hoods walking in the roadway on Carroll Street. The officer was unable to see the faces of the two men because of the clothing they were wearing. Due to the time of night and the recent string of vehicle and home burglaries that had occurred in the area, the officer exited his vehicle to speak with the two subjects.
While speaking with one the subjects, identified as Brandon Carl Holloway, age 27, 1516 South Grady Avenue, Picayune, Holloway placed his hands in his pockets and began to make furtive movements as if he was digging for something in his pockets and began to walk away from the officer. The officer advised Holloway numerous times to stop digging in his pockets and to stop, but Holloway refused and continued walking away according to Magri.
When the officer was able to catch up with Holloway, he observed him discard a Newport cigarette pack onto the side of the road and a colorful green and black plastic baggie onto the ground. The officer attempted to detain Holloway, but he refused and continued to try to pull away from the officer. At this time, the officer tried to take Holloway into custody, but he continued to actively resist.
While the officer wrestled with Holloway, he observed the other subject pick up the green and black plastic baggie, put it in his backpack, and continued to walk away. A second officer arrived on the scene and detained the second subject who had picked up the baggie and walked away and assisted the first officer is placing Holloway into custody according to Magri.
Holloway was placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct-Failure to Comply, Resisting Arrest, and Littering. The officer conducted a search of Holloway’s person and located two short, plastic, red straws commonly used to inhale or ingest narcotics, that contained an off-white residue in Holloway’s front pockets. At this time, he was additionally charged with Possession of Paraphernalia.
Magri said the second officer then recovered the green and black plastic baggie that Holloway had dropped on the ground as he had walked away earlier. The baggie was labeled ‘Super Nova’ which is a brand of synthetic cannibas. The second officer also recovered the Newport cigarette pack and found it contained a clear plastic bag containing an off-white powdery substance believed to be Heroin. At this time, an additional charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance (felony), Possession of a Controlled Substance (misdemeanor), Tampering with Physical Evidence.
Holloway was transported to the Criminal Justice Center where he was booked and incarcerated. The second subject was released at scene according to Magri.
