Three dead in I-59 accident on Thanksgiving Day

Officials are still investigating a five-vehicle crash on Interstate 59 around mile marker 38 near Lumberton in Pearl River County that killed three people and injured four more yesterday morning around 10:30 a.m..

According to reports from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, 48-year-old Shelley E. Rose of Elgin, SC, was driving a Dodge Caravan on the wrong side of Interstate 59 when she crashed head-on into a Saturn being driven by 23-year-old Jada Bright of Slidell. After hitting Brights car, Rose had a head-on crash with a Nissan Altima being driven by 45-year-old Evans Vincent of Alberville, AL.

Two other vehicles were involved in the accident when a 2011 Honda CRV went into the woods after crashing into the Saturn and a 2007 Toyota Tundra struck several pieces of debris left on the roadway from the accidents.

Witnesses told authorities that Rose had entered the interstate at exit 35 at Hillsdale.

Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said Rose, Bright, and Vincent all died as a result of injuries they received from the accident. Turnage also said that toxicology tests will be performed on the three deceased in the accident.

Four people were taken to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg including the driver and two passengers of the Honda CRV and the driver of the Toyota Tundra.
