Man arrested after vehicle was left in roadway obstructing traffic

Picayune Police Department Narcotics Division Detectives were conducting proactive patrolling on November 6, 2018, at approximately 1:00 p.m. in the area of Morris Street and Neal Road when they observed a white unoccupied car parked in the middle of the roadway that was obstructing traffic according to a press release from Picayune Police Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri.

Detectives determined the registered owner of the vehicle and went to the address at 2301 Morris Street in an attempt to make contact with the owner of the vehicle. When they arrived at the residence, they observed a suspect, identified as Demond Lamont McGill, Jr.age 21, of 205 North Delano Drive, Picayune, to be standing in the doorway of the residence at Morris Street.

Detectives observed McGill to be holding a black digital scale in his hand and to have a green leafy substance believed to be Marijuana on his shirt. At this time, McGill was detained while a search of the residence was conducted by the Detectives according to Magri’s press release.

Upon conducting a search of the residence, Detectives located several clear plastic bags containing a green leafy substance believed to be hydroponic Marijuana on the ground where McGill was standing.

It was learned through investigative techniques that McGill was allegedly intending to distribute the narcotics found by the Detectives.

Magri’s press release states that McGill was placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute Within 1,500 feet of a Church and transported to the Criminal Justice Center where he was booked and incarcerated.
