Maroon Tide cruises past West Harrison 62-3

Picayune amassed over 500 yards of offense is cruising past the West Harrison Hurricanes with a 62-3 win at Cane Stadium in Gulfport. Picayune moves its record to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in Region 4-5A.

The Maroon Tide scored the first three times they had the football.

The first possession was a 6 play 78 yard drive with Jairice Travis scoring from 5 yards out with 7:44 left in the first quarter. Issac Brice kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

The next drive started in West Harrison territory after Picayune blocked a punt and recovered the ball at the West Harrison 37. Five plays later, Winston Drain bullied his way in from 3 yards out with 4:42 left in the quarter. Brice’s point after was good to make it 14-0.

West Harrison responded and put together a sustained drive that resulted in a 23 yard field goal by Koyle Joyner with :44 left in the quarter.

Picayune got a good return of the ensuing kickoff by Greg Swan to the Hurricane 49. From there, the Maroon Tide took 6 plays to score with Jortin Raine weaving his way in from 17 yards out. Brice’s extra point made it 21-3 with 11:01 to play in the second quarter.

The Maroon Tide scored again on a 15 yard run by Raine. Kaleb Hart had a 52 run on the play before Raine’s touchdown. Brice kicked the point after to make it 28-3 with 1:30 left.

Juvonta Raymond and Kaleb Hart

Juvonta Raymond had a 32 yard catch and run on a pass from Jakail Myers when Raymond got free in the flats on first down and scampered 22 yards. After Raine ran for 11 yards, Raymond got free again and busted up the middle, broke several tackles, and found the end zone on a 31 yard run with 11:07 left in the third quarter. The point after was no good.

Raine scored again on a 3 yard run with 7:14 left in the third quarter. Issac Hickman scored on a 1 yard run with 3:30 left in the quarter and Jairice Travis added a touchdown run of 28 yards early in the fourth quarter (11:45 left) and another 1 yard touchdown with 7:10 left in the game.

Jortin Raine (17 carries 205 yards) and Jairice Travis (9 carries 115 yards) led the Maroon Tide. Picayune ran for 497 yards behind another solid effort from center Garrett Franklin, guards Mark Kendrick and Blake Mitchell, tackles Jay Mickle and Deonta Reed, and tight end Danzelle Whitney. Raymond and Swan had numerous blocks for Raine and Travis from the fullback position as well.

Picayune will host Stone on Friday at Lee-Triplett Stadium with a schedule kickoff at 7:00pm.
