Search warrant leads to narcotics arrest of a local man

The Picayune Police Narcotics Division and Picayune Patrol Division executed a search warrant on August 27th at 7:42 p.m. at 802 South Main Street in reference to several community complaints of illegal narcotic activity at the residence according to a press release from Assistant Police Chief Jeremy Magri.

 

 When Detectives entered the residence, they immediately smelled a strong odor of what appeared to Marijuana throughout the residence.   Detectives then came in contact with the suspect, identified as Leon Lama Washington, a.k.a. “Nook”, age 25, who was in the kitchen of the residence.   Detectives detained Washington and performed a search of his person for officer safety and found a clear plastic bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be Hydroponic Marijuana located in his front pants pocket according to Magri’s press release.   Several male and female juveniles between the ages of 2 and 13 years were located in the residence.

 

Upon searching the residence, Detectives located a blue Maxell coffee container which contained a pile of loose green leafy substance believed to be Hydroponic Marijuana and a clear plastic bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be Marijuana, both found in a laundry basket in the bedroom.  Also, in the bedroom, Detectives located a black digital scale containing a green leafy substance in the top dresser drawer and a sandwich box of clear plastic bags was found in the closet in the bedroom, both of which are commonly used to distribute illegal narcotics according to Magri.

           

 Washington was arrested for Possession of Controlled Substance With Intent to Distribute and Child Abuse (Felony-Chile in the Presence of Drugs).   He was transported to the Criminal Justice Center, booked on the said charges, and incarcerated.   Magri’s press release stated that the juveniles were released at the scene to their grandmother and Child Protective Services was notified.
