Two local men arrested for illegal narcotics

Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri detailed the arrest of two local men for illegal narcotics in a recent press release.

Magri’s press release states that on August 7th at approximately 9:54pm, Picayune Police Department Narcotics Division along with the Pearl River County Narcotics Division, were conducting proactive criminal patrols when they observed a white 2006 Hyundai vehicle was parked in the middle of Fourth Street near North Jackson Avenue and was obstructing traffic. Detectives observed an unknown male speaking to someone inside the vehicle.

Detectives made contact with the suspects at the vehicle and identified Gary Antonio “Pee Wee” Van Buren, age 22, of 308 Clark Street, Picayune as the person sitting in the vehicle, and identified the male that was speaking to Van Buren was identified as Jonathan Jervonne “Sidewayy Sanee” Brooks, age 21, of 114 North Monroe Avenue, Picayune. While speaking with the suspects, Detectives smelled a strong odor of what appeared to be Marijuana emitting from Brooks and Van Buren.

According to Magri, Detectives located a large plastic bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be Hydroponic Marijuana and a black digital scale containing a green leafy residue believed to be Marijuana inside of Brooks’ front right pants pocket. At this time, Detectives also found a black loaded Glock 26 handgun containing an extended magazine which contained full metal rounds of ammunition on the ground where Brooks was previously seen standing.

Detectives also located a clear plastic bag of a green leafy substance believed to be Marijuana inside of a fanny pack that was tied around Van Buren’s waist. Through further investigation, it was learned that Brooks and Van Buren allegedly conspired to distribute and sell the Marijuana they had in their possession according to Magri.

Brooks was placed under arrest of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute While in Possession of a Firearm and Conspiracy to Sell a Controlled Substance While in Possession of a Firearm. Van Buren was placed under arrest for Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell Within 1500 feet of a Church and Conspiracy to Sell a Controlled Substance within 1500 feet of a Church. The Glock handgun was seized due to being within close proximity of illegal narcotics.

Both Brooks and Van Buren were transported to the Criminal Justice Center where they booked and incarcerated on the said charges.
