Seven Wildcats earn postseason honors in baseball
POPLARVILLE – Seven members of the 2018 MACJC State Champion Pearl River Community College baseball team have been recognized for postseason honors.
Three players earned both NJCAA All-Region 23 and MACJC All-State First Team honors, another Wildcat was also named to the All-State First Team, and three others were named to the All-State Second Team.

Sophomores Simon Landry (Ponchatoula, La.) and Derek Eberly (Blountstown, Fla.), along with freshman Shemar Page (Raleigh) were named both All-Region and All-State First Team. Sophomore Colby White (Foxworth) was also tabbed for the All-State First Team.
Named as MACJC All-State Second Team selections were redshirt sophomore Bryson Medious (Columbia), redshirt freshman Matt Taylor (Raleigh) and freshman Miles Smith (Laurel).
Landry, who started every game at first base the past two seasons, led Pearl River with a .392 batting average (67 of 171), 19 home runs, 16 doubles and 68 runs-batted-in. He also scored 51 runs and finished with an OPS of 1.277, including a .830 slugging percentage.
Landry set a new school record for home runs in a season, breaking the old mark of 18 set in 2004 by PRCC assistant coach Rhyne Hughes.
Eberly, who started every game at shortstop after transferring in this season from Chipola (Fla.) College, batted .387 (63 of 163), with a team-high 59 runs, 16 doubles, 3 triples, 8 homers and 43 RBIs. His OPS was 1.167 with a team-best .498 on-base percentage.
Page, a right-handed pitcher who also served as designated hitter, made 13 starts on the mound, posting a 10-2 record with 77 strikeouts, 19 walks in 59 1/3 innings and had an earned-run average of 2.73. He also batted .307 (23 of 75) with 2 homers and 16 RBIs.
White made 20 appearances, including three starts early in the season, and finished with a 5-2 record, 8 saves, 51 strikeouts and 10 walks in 31 innings, and an ERA of 6.10. In 14 MACJC games, he was 4-1 with a 1.47 ERA, 33 strikeouts and 4 walks in 18 1/3 innings.
Medious, who appeared in every game this season as an outfielder, hit .323 (50 of 155) with 8 home runs, 6 doubles, 50 runs and 11 stolen bases in 14 attempts.
Taylor, who started most of the season in centerfield, hit .372 (54 of 145) with 10 doubles, 1 homer, 26 RBIs and a team-high 19 steals in 22 attempts.
Smith, a right-handed pitcher, made 13 appearances (11 starts) and compiled a 6-2 record with 50 strikeouts and 31 walks in 55 2/3 innings, and had an ERA of 3.23.
The Wildcats finished 38-11 overall, 23-5 in conference, won their second state title and advanced to the semifinal round of the MACJC Region 23 Tournament for the second consecutive season.
